The Opening Night Film of Polish Film Festival North America 2026 — a new adaptation of Bolesław Prus’s masterpiece, known in English as The Doll.
Warsaw, the closing decades of the 19th century. Stanisław Wokulski, a merchant who has made a fortune, falls for Izabela Łęcka, the daughter of an impoverished aristocratic family. To reach her he enters a world of salons, titles and unwritten rules — a world that takes his money gladly and never quite accepts him.
Maciej Kawalski’s film is a story of great passion, ambition and dreams that come at a price, and of a man whose faith in people is tested to the end.
Marcin Dorociński plays Wokulski, with Kamila Urzędowska as Izabela Łęcka, Marek Kondrat as Ignacy Rzecki, Maja Komorowska as Prezesowa Zasławska and Andrzej Seweryn as Tomasz Łęcki. In Polish cinemas from 30 September 2026.
