A documentary portrait of Jan Englert — actor, director and teacher — and of a life spent on and behind the stage.
Maciej Dancewicz follows Jan Englert through a career that has shaped Polish theatre and film for decades, including more than twenty years as artistic director of the National Theatre in Warsaw.
The film moves between the professional and the private: the discipline of the stage, the work with generations of students, and the quieter reflections of a man looking back at what he built and at what it cost him.
Among those who speak about him are Beata Ścibakówna, Helena Englert, Anna Dymna, Maja Komorowska, Małgorzata Kożuchowska, Danuta Stenka, Joanna Szczepkowska and Ewa Wiśniewska.
In Chicago the screening is followed by a meeting with Jan Englert. This event requires a separate ticket – the Festival Pass is not valid for admission.
