„Przez ścianę” (Through the Wall), directed by Maciej Sobieszczański, won the Golden Lions — the Grand Prize of the 51st Polish Film Festival in Gdynia, the most important award in Polish cinema. The film also took the award for cinematography, which went to Jolanta Dylewska.
Florida audiences will not have to wait long. Polish Film Festival North America brings the Gdynia winner to Silverspot Cinema Miami on Saturday, November 21 at 5:00 PM — a rare chance to see this year’s best Polish film on the big screen.
A love story told in Morse code
Warsaw, 1947. Wiesława Pajdak and Jerzy Śmiechowski are sent to the Rakowiecka Street prison. A wall separates them, but night-time conversations in Morse code allow them to build an extraordinary bond — and to find the strength to survive repression and years of separation. The film is based on true events. Maria Dębska and Jakub Gierszał play the leads, alongside Agnieszka Grochowska and Arkadiusz Jakubik.
The Closing Gala in Miami
„Przez ścianę” opens the Festival Closing Gala, a red carpet event at Silverspot Cinema Miami (Met Square, 300 SE 3rd Street). It is followed at 8:00 PM by „Lalka” (The Doll), with a meet and greet, Q&A, wine and bubbles. One ticket covers the whole evening.
The night before, on Friday, November 20, Miami sees „Nasza rewolucja” (Our Revolution) at 6:00 PM — the film that brought Jacek Koman the Gdynia award for best supporting actor — and „Lalka” at 8:00 PM.
Sarasota
The festival also comes to Sarasota: „Lalka” screens at Lakewood Ranch Cinema on Sunday, November 22 at 5:00 PM.
